Event Overview
AEEP Forum – 4th edition - 6 March 2025
Africa-Europe energy relations are more important than ever, not only to boost economic development, but also to ensure energy security and jointly fight climate change. As the G20 presidency, South Africa serves as a perfect location to discuss accelerated financing approaches for energy development in Africa.
The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) is hosting the fourth annual AEEP Forum as a side event of the Africa Energy Indaba on 6 March, in Cape Town, South Africa. The event will take stock of the successful bi-continental collaboration to date and further align on shared priorities and a vision for achieving SDG7 – access to modern, sustainable and reliable energy for all.
Established in 2007, the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) is the gateway for joint action on affordable and reliable energy for all Africans. AEEP actively supports the implementation of joint actions for a green energy transition. The successful bi-continental collaboration is already contributing towards the implementation of ongoing initiatives such as the Continental Power System Master Plan (CMP) and creation of the Africa Single Electricity Market (AfSEM) – important building blocks for achieving SDG7.
A newly published report on ‘European financial flows on SDG7 to Africa’, commissioned by the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), however, shows that current investments towards SDG7 in Africa are insufficient to reach universal access by 2030. More ambitious interventions are needed. The AEEP Forum will convene high-level representatives from Africa and Europe to discuss the financing needs for achieving SDG7 and how to scale up renewable energy through the continental initiatives in place, in a true partnership of equals with mutual benefits.
Themes to be discussed
The Forum agenda will explore the broader renewable energy, wind and solar solution potential in Africa. Focused sessions on wind power development, utility solar, rooftop solar, off-grid, mini-grid and energy storage opportunities and solutions will be featured. Renowned African and international expert speakers will share their insights and knowledge around the business opportunities available for the benefit of the Continent. Topics include:
